Surprise is a city located in Maricopa County,
Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the city had a
total population of 30,848. As of 2004, the
population is estimated at about 75,000
according to municipal government sources.
There are 12,484 households out of which 21.5% have children under the age of 18
living with them,
69.5% are married couples living together, 5.4% have a female householder with
no husband present,
and 22.1% are non-families. 17.9% of all households are made up of individuals
and 8.9% have
someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size
is 2.46 and the
average family size is 2.75.
In the city the population is spread out with 19.9% under the age of 18, 7.0%
from 18 to 24, 22.4% from
25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 25.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The
median age is 46 years.
For every 100 females there are 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and
over, there are 94.9 males.
